Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County
Moffett Field opened in 1933 as Naval Air Station Sunnyvale, home base for the Navy airship USS Macon. Hangar One, built to shelter the airship, covers about eight acres and still dominates the skyline from Highway 101. NASA Ames Research Center has shared the airfield since 1939, on the northern edge of Sunnyvale.
